Perspectives on Art Datis: Marieke Hendriksen
I am a historian of science, art, and knowledge with a strong interest in of the role of material culture and sensory perception in the production and circulation of knowledge. After stints as a postdoc, lecturer, and research fellow in London, Groningen, Berlin, Utrecht, Edinburgh, and Philadelphia I now work as senior researcher at NL-Lab, an interdisciplinary research group within the Humanities Cluster of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in Amsterdam. In my research, I combine traditional methods such as close reading and visual analysis with performative and DH methods. I have a background in philosophy of art (MA), cultural studies (MRes) and early modern history of science (PhD). Hence, I am particularly interested in historical continuities and changes and in the intersections of art, craft, and science in glassmaking which are studied in the Art DATIS project using DH methods.
